Homeopathic Treatment of Tuberculoma of the brain
Master S. A. S. H., a 15 year old Muslim boy, resident of a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh in
India, was brought to my Out Patient Clinic at Shree Mumbadevi Homoeopathic Hospital on July 31, 2008
with a history of convulsions for the past two years.
These seizures have occurred on four occasions in the past two years, with an episode occurring once in
4 or 5 months. These seizures were characterized by rolling up of the eyes, frothing at the mouth and
restlessness and unconsciousness. The seizures usually occured in his sleep and each episode was
followed by fever and vomiting. He also has a headache that lasted for a day after the seizure. The attack
usually lasted for 4-5 minutes. There was no aura before the seizure. The last episode of seizure was on
July 1, 2008.
His birth was a full term normal delivery (at home). All the milestones had been normal. He had been
vaccinated completely as per the National Vaccination program. He suffered from an eruptive fever, most
likely measles, when he was about 13 years old.
He is a teenager with a good appetite and a craving for mutton. Thirst is good, about 1-2 litres per day.
He has an offensive sweat on the head. He sleeps for about 10 hours every day but it does not refresh
him. He salivates in his sleep. He dreams of snakes and scorpions chasing and biting him.
He has a fear of snakes and scorpions. (Many people have been bitten by them in his home town.) He is
quite irritable and often feels like hitting the offending person.
His thermal state was Ambithermal --> Cilly.
There was no past or family history of any medical or surgical illness.
Examination findings:
TPR/BP: normal; Weight: 42 kgs.
No pallor/ clubbing/ icterus/ lymph nodes. ENT/Chest: Clear
CNS: Higher functions & Cranial Nerves- Normal. Tone and Power: Normal. No Cerebellar signs.
DTRs ++, Plantars- flexors.
Investigation:
CT Scan of the Brain (plain and contrast) July 5, 2008 revealed a conglomerate ring enhancing lesion in
the left frontal region of size 5 x 6 mm, with peri-lesional vasogenic oedema, effacing the adjacent sulci.
Imp: Tuberculoma
Treatment:
Considering the diagnosis of Tuberculoma of the brain and the fact that there were no characteristic
features of any constitutional homeopathic medicine, the drug Iodoform 30, was started on July 31,
2008. It was given three times daily for 2 weeks.
Follow Up:
The patient was followed up on August 8, 2008 and then at monthly intervals thereafter. Iodoform 30
was continued at each follow up.
His weight had increased to 45 kgs. on January 19, 2009. There had been no episodes of seizures and
fever since starting Iodoform.
On December 24, 2008, the patient expressed a desire to return to his home town since he had been
asymptomatic for the past 5 months. He was advised to repeat a CT scan of the brain and
visit us after a month. Iodoform was continued as before.
The patient visited us again in March 2009 and then on April 4, 2009. He had remained asymptomatic for
over 8 months, weight 47 kgs. His CT scan showed a complete resolution of the Tubercular meningioma.
Since the patient wanted to return to his home town, he was advised to continue Iodoform 30, tds, for 3
months and then stop the medicine. THIS PATIENT WAS ONLY ON HOMOEOPATHIC TREATMENT. He was
not on Anti Koch's Treatment (AKT).
