Is Cure a real possibility or a distant dream in practice?

“In the present age where there is a tremendous amount of stress (mental and physical), or when the patient comes to us at a stage where expecting cure is difficult, we can only give maximum relief to the patient. Cure- as defined by Dr. Hahnemann- is a rare phenomenon, at least in my practice. I can state that 60-70% of my patients get relief. - Dr. Neeraj O. Goel, Professor and Head of Materia Medica Dept., CMP Homoeopathic Medical College, Bombay, India

“Cure is a possibility in the practical sense. To label “cure”, we need to not only treat the presenting complaint, but observe over a period of time, the ‘direction of cure’. If we understand ‘success of prescriptions’ and consider ‘palliation’ of incurables, the average cure rate could be 50-60%” - Dr. S. K. Goel, Principal of CMP Homoeopathic Medical College, Bombay; formerly A.M.O. Govt. Homoeopathic Hospital, Bombay and Deputy Director- Homoeopathy, Govt. of Maharashtra

“Never seriously gave it a thought.” - Dr. Farokh J. Master, M.D. (Hom.) Hon. Homoeopath- Mumbadevi Homoeopathic Hospital, Bombay Hospital; Member Central Council of Homoeopathy, Govt. of India; Internationally renowned teacher.

“Cure is possible if all the principles are applied. Often this is not possible and we settle on Relief or Palliation. We also use this term of Cure very loosely. Unless there is standardized thinking in all respects right from case taking and selection of a remedy on the basis of Totality, First prescription and followed by second prescription, on the basis of Kent’s observations, Hering’s Law of Direction of Cure, model Cure is not possible. This is not impossible though. With our existing working practices, the cure rate is about 50%. Rest is palliation and dropouts.”

- Dr. K. P. Muzumdar, Chairman of the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Committee, Govt. of India; Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy; the Central Council of Homoeopathy and the Governing Body of the National Institute of Homoeopathy, Govt. of India

Professor Emeritus at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University; Visiting Professor at the Manitoba Institute of Homoeopathy, Canada Former Director of the National Institute of Homoeopathy, and the Central Research Institute, Govt. of India; former Head of Dept. of Pharmacy at CMP Homoeopathic Medical College, Bombay

“Cure is a relative definition- I would put it as improvement in health. There are many cases like asthma, epilepsy, etc., which can be cured. But, diseases like diabetes, cardiac conditions, cancer pains can only be relieved.” - Dr. Jawahar J. Shah, Developer of the homoeopathic software ‘Hompath’; Member- Central Council of Homoeopathy, Govt. of India; Internationally renowned teacher

“For me, cure has not been a ‘distant’ but a realized dream with homeopathy. Unfortunately, I have not maintained a statistical record of cured cases.” - Dr. Ramgopal D. Tapadia, Principal of T.S. Homoeopathic Medical College, Amravati for the past 25 years; Member- Central Council of Homoeopathy, Govt. of India. He has presented a paper on Hepatitis B at the LMHI Conference at Seattle, USA in 1997.

According to Organon of Medicine the highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health, or removal of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles. But this permanent cure is a distant dream.

In 80% of my cases I observe that not only the physical complaints but also the general attitude and emotional state of the patient improves.  He also feels better in his general energy and overall health.  Due to certain exciting factors symptoms may recur but with much milder intensity which can be corrected with the same remedy if they fall within the domain of that remedy.”  Dr,. Ranjan Sankaran is an internationally renowned teacher and author of several books on homeopathy.
